March 2022

We’re thrilled to announce that Currie High School has now been granted planning permission, and will be the first Passivhaus secondary school in Scotland.

The Passivhaus standard adopts a whole-building approach, and is a tried and tested solution to deliver buildings with a high level of occupant comfort while using very little energy for heating and cooling.

Rybka is contributing with mechanical and electrical engineering design consultancy as well as our full Building Physics package.

The school, with its low-energy passive design measures, will assist CEC in its aspirations for net-zero by 2030. It will also provide a wide range of sustainability and wellbeing measures.

“The new Currie Community High School will provide a first-class learning environment and an exciting, inspirational and creative hub for the whole community.” – Councillor Ian Perry, Education, Children and Families convener for the City of Edinburgh Council

Well done to everyone involved and we look forward to seeing it come out the ground!
