The second nominated project that we’d like to discuss is the HMP & YOI Stirling, otherwise known as the Women’s National Facility.

The design of the Women’s National Facility represented a new approach to secure accommodation design in Scotland, and differs from that of a typical prison establishment. Rybka worked closely with Morrison Construction and the wider design team on the design development of each of the site’s 7 buildings.

The project included a 250kW Ground Source Heat Pump array which serves a sitewide communal heating system, demand controlled mechanical ventilation, secure environment water controls and a lighting design sympathetic to the project’s aesthetic and low energy design aspirations.

Following an in-depth review undertaken by Rybka, the final heating system design was developed to include a bivalent Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP). GSHPs were sized to provide a base level of heating to the facility with top up duel fuel high-efficiency condensing boilers to meet peak building loads.

This was a brilliant project to be a part of!

Good luck to Holmes Miller!
